Locking Process

Today I have been locked for four months now, funny now time flies when your not combing your hair. At this point I'm in need of a retighting like yesterday. I'm still trying to figure out ways to style my hair after about two weeks out from being retightened, craziness starts. After two weeks has pasted I start to look like Oh My, what happened to your hair. LOL. Sense getting loced my hair has went though many different stages. At first it was so soft that I could not touch it or wash it really. After the first month it got better and I was able to pull it up and do alot more styling and fixing. Month three my hair took on a stiff curl that released at the end of the third month. Now four months out I'm back to the softness stage with a lot of stinkage and curl. I've had a lot of growth, more in some spots then others for some reason.

I'm just sitting and waiting on my fifth month to see what will happen next.

Share your locing stages with me ladies, what stage are you in?

I knew my hair would lock quickly because of it's texture. In the beginning my hair was stiff and using the Sisterlock and other drying shampoos made it even more dry, but these shampoos are recommended to quicken the locking process. Once I got the ok from my consultant I switched my shampoo and started using conditioner. Shrinkage, I think, is inevitable since in order for your hair to lock it must knot up, which in itself decreases your length.

I'm currently at a great stage. I'm liking my length even though I've been contemplating cutting it extremely short.... My hair is no longer stiff and since I'm ok with my length I'm not worried about shrinkage. I need to work on styling my hair though..

well i don't have locs, but as a natural, i understand the different phases our hair goes through. i've been natural for a year and three months now and i think i've had every phase of hair... from soft, to coarse, to curly, to fro-ed, to stringy, to tangled, to shrunken. lol.

everything. ha. fotki is my witness.

looks like you have some good growth and it's looking fab!

happy growing!

I'm sistered locked for 8 months now. I'm going to be one of those people that may take 2 years to lock completely. I have a loose curl pattern especially in the nape area (really straight hair)Some of them still come loose occasionally in the nape area only. I have curls on the ends of my locks and some are fuzzie to me. Others think they are just curls. I don't know what stage I'm in but I can diffently see growth and locking slowly.

Happy 4 monthversary! LOL! I am going to do a post on the locking phases because I think many people don't know what they are exactly or what ppl with locks mean when they say thinkgs like baby or mature locks.

Moriah: I have looked for you every where for a year now and have not been able to locate you. I'm so sorry that you feel bad about your hair. I promise that at some point as you grow your hair will be your last concern. You could be bald and still put most chics to sleep lol. I hope that this time has passed and you are more happy now. Never iron your hair, I use to do it lol. Maybe braid locks would be best for you instead of dreads to get the look you want. Wear cute headbands and hats and clips for added color. it will all work out in the end. I hope that one day you will come back to my blog or e-mail me again. XO
