First Sighting, Second Hair Argument

This weekend I decided to do some late night shopping that I love to do. Wal-Mart is so much more pleasant at 9 p.m. then in the middle of the afternoon. I'm at the check out line and five men with locks come my way. Now I have to say before that I would have not noticed their hair before. Being a locked chic in training makes you more in tuned with other fellow locked individuals.
Anyone notice this about yourself, having locks sighting awareness?
Three of them come right up to me in line and start to touch my hair and ask me questions. Then one said, "I love your sisterlocks". I told him that he was the first one to get that right and it felt good that he knew what they were. So that's it I'm a locked chic hee, hee.

Now on to the heffa with an attitude part of my weekend:

On Sunday I had a woman say to me, I like your braids, who did them for you and touched them. So I told her and added, thank you but these are locks, not braids. She got real close to my head and said oh now I see their twists. Well their very pretty, in a funky tone. I said no their not twists their locks. She said, no their twists they are done with a comb, right. I said, wrong their done by hand without using any chemicals or added elements. Then just like that she said, well you do know that when they get real long and start to get heavy your hair will break off. Also they are way to small which is why they will break.

Now stop, think about it. This is what I said to myself.

Because my son was with me, good for her. Due to the manner in which she said it and the look she gave my hair with her hand on her big hip. I never really thought that I would have to argue about hair on "my head" with someone else. Of course I told her that I've seen several other women with my type of locks down their backs, healthy and with locks two times smaller than mines. I told her that my hair was strong prior and would not just fall off because it grows. So maybe hers would but mines is good. She replied with an yeah well.............who did you say did your hair again? Still rolling her beta fish sized eyes?
Now ain't that a Bitch!!!!!!!
You'll know she didn't get that info from me again right ;-).

I've had plenty of those experiences.... Many traditional locked heads have told me my hair would break off since the locks were so thin. Even had someone show me how many would need to be combined to not break-off..WTF!!!??? Why are these people worried about our hair choices?? I've learned to hold my tongue, it's just not worth the argument...

Your locks are looking great!!

I want to lock my hair I am a dude but I love the really small locks like how they do the sister locking. my problem is i wont be able to get them retightened in Korea of all places lol. I still want to loc...so what do u suggest..Maybe braidlocs? I need something I can do myself after i get them put in...

Meikmekia: WTF is so right LOL. I mean what differences will it really make to say something negative about something you don't understand? Just say I'm jealous and leave it at that. :-) Your locks are beautiful so I know folks have lots to say.

Danny: People should not say things to others when they don't know what they will get in return. I wanted to hurt her feelings, I really did.
But anyway....... KOREA: OMG that's hot news. Firstly Congrads on that. Secondly...Yes, I think your right braid locks would be a good start. With brother locks and sister locks they ask that you have your consultant retightening you in the beginning before trying it yourself. Braid locks could be better because you could go to someone to do your parting for you and then spend time researching online on how to retightening them yourself. Also the constant can show you how if asked because it is not a secret technique. If you don't like it over a couple of months you can take them down. Little money spent and with your knowledge of your personal likes. I like Korean food LOL.. Don't forget about me when your chewing :-).

Yeah it crazy crazy because even until this day I have still had some of these same convos with strangers. Or this girl a while back was eating a melting candy bar and reached out to touch my hair. So I stopped her. Then her face got twisted up. I just laughed cause I'm thinking if I wanted breath filled chocolate in my hair. I don't think I'd ask her to give it to me lol. Thank you so much for the comments. I love natural hair also. Thanks Macaroni.
