Loc Questions...Need Your Answers

I have some questions ladies and gents, any deep thinkers willing to share their input or opinions?

In no order of course:

When do you know that your hair is starting to lock? Not everyone gets the balls on the ends.

How often do you wash your locks?

Do they begin to get fuzzy overtime if you don't use a head cover at night? Cause I don't.

Can baby locks be pulled during sex?

When folks say over styling your their baby locks, are they referring to curling and braiding them?

Why are locks so Taboo but some will wear braided weave for a life time?

Why is having locks considered to be exothermic and exotic to others? I keep hearing this.

Flavored lip gloss, why do I like it so much? Oh sorry I guess I was asking myself that one. :-.}

Thoughts Please?

When do you know that your hair is starting to lock? Most locks take 6 months to 2 yrs. depending on your hair texture.

How often do you wash your locks?
For me, personally, once every 2 wks.

Do they begin to get fuzzy overtime if you don't use a head cover at night? Locks will go through a "Fuzzy" stage {during the first 2 yrs. especially}, that IS the locking process.

Can baby locks be pulled during sex? I got my locks "Pulled" ;) after my hair reached shoulder length, and was mature {if you go to my blog, I'm starting a 2nd set now. to see past locks, Click on the FEB. - APR. 2006 Folder

Why is having locks considered to be exothermic and exotic to others? Once my locks reached shoulder-length {& beyond}, a lot of guys have this fantasy/fetish about pulling them {during sex}... this was told to me about 5 times, different guys... {JUST TALK!, Only My DH DOES THAT! ;) }

Keeps your lips moist? lol

That is all I could answer, HTH...
Take care~

I don't sleep with a scarf instead I sleep on a satin pillow. I am in my fuzzy stage with my locks. In some areas I can see that I am locking, so if I examine a lock I can see the changes in various parts of it. My one hair rule for sex is "You can touch, no pulling", and that was before the sisterlocks. I need to wash atleast every two weeks but that just does not happen with my schedule.

Lol at the can they be pulled during sex. I have to say... yes to that one. Interesting questions overall. I'm looking forward to reading some of the other responces.

Greetings! I had my first set of locks for 8.7 years, and now my new set will be One Year in Oct. 08
but I am only calling them braids until they begin to look like locks {which will be a while}.

I would image that you would be able to saturate your hair with soapy water and rinse at least once a week.

If you could have your hair pulled before, I don't see why you still can't have it tugged on a little. Isn't getting your hair pulled during sex about personal preference? If you prefer to have it pulled, get it pulled! ;-)

Over styling? It means the overuse of heat products, or any style that puts tension on the locks: braiding, twisting, pulling up in a ponytail.I believe this is referring to when the locks are in the baby and teenage stage. For me, too much tension caused several locks to weaken and break off.

Queenli:
LOL I like the pulling so it's on. :-)

Lakia:
I have always slept on a satin pillow case. A trick I learned from my mother as a child. I'm trying to wash once every two weeks just to give time for it to settle.

Naseema: Hi Five

Shavonne:
Baby locs can broke while settling so that pulling question was needed.

Aya:
I do pull up my hair, but I never do it with anything tight. I always leave out the front and the back and only pull back the longest hairs. I hope that your hair is doing o.k. now.

When do you know that your hair is starting to lock?
I can tell my hair is locking because it feels hard in comparison to the soft squishy feel they had when I initially got them. Also, I have balls everywhere!

How often do you wash your locks?
I wash my locks every week and sometimes I just rinse in between. I am not sure if I wash too much but because of my workout schedule, I don't like to have funky hair.

Do they begin to get fuzzy overtime if you don't use a head cover at night?
I have noticed that my hair is getting fuzzy as well. I thought it was from washing too much but if it is part of the process then I am cool. I sleep with a satin cap and sometimes I don't. I get a bit more lent when I don't sleep with anything.

Can baby locks be pulled during sex?
I think the real question is whether you like your hair to be pulled! BF pulls mine and things have been fine!

When folks say over styling your their baby locks, are they referring to curling and braiding them?
That is a good one. I think that I hurt my ends when I twist and knot my hair. So, I have to take it easy. But nothing has fallen out yet!

Why are locks so Taboo but some will wear braided weave for a life time?
IMO, I think it is because locks are so permanent and some have negative views of locks. The first think people always mention is that you have to CUT locks to get rid of them while some have been raised to never cut your hair. So, you don't cut a weave and you can pretend it is yours!

Why is having locks considered to be exothermic and exotic to others?
I have never heard the term exothermic used in relation to hair. Not being a smarty pants(I am a nerd by day), but can you use it in a sentence in relation to hair? Anyway, as far as exotic... I never heard anyone mention that it was. I am around non-african american people mostly and some have the opinion that locks are nasty and belong to nasty people. Others just think it is cute.

Flavored lip gloss, why do I like it so much?
Flavored lip gloss is just fun and smells good! The shinier the better!

Phylecia:
On the locking my Specialist said that I may never get the balls on the ends but that my hair would loc in different spots instead. I work out alot but thank goodness my scalp doesn't sweat so I don't wash as oftenmaybe once every two weeks.
I'm a nerd myself LOL
I was actually told that I looked exothermic with locks by a guy at the grocery store.
His exact sentence:
Your locks cause me to feel exothermic.
Exothermic: means to release heat like a exothermic reaction.
So to relate this to a person hair. Your basically saying that to see or feel a persons hair or locks it makes you hot and gives you a warm feeling or reaction, in a males case possibly an erection.
You asked :-)

Your hair locks when it naturally mattes and look less like braids and more like locks. See the transition photos of the many mature locked bloggers. Balls on the ends could just mean bunching. some of my locks are locked without the balls anywhere.

I wash my hair usually at least once a week or more if needed.

I think fuzz has to do with hair texture and pattern. i will never cover my locks at night. That's way too high maintenance for me. Although, I know it helps to minimize fuzz and lint to cover your locks. It just doesn't feel free.

If your hair could be pulled, so can your locks. Just make sure it's not 1 or 2 locs but a whole handful or 2 or 4 if you're into that. LOL!

Styling can mean heat styling, braids, curls, roller sets or up-dos.

I think naturally Black people who are natural are considered exotic. I got the exotic comments even without locks. exothermic? hmm...never got that one. lol!
