First Wash, Why?

Last night I did my first wash already after: only four days of being locked. Why?
Because the title of this post should have been itchy, itchy, scratch, scratch! Yesterday out of the blue my head started to itch out of control. Which was weird to me due to the fact that all I have used in my hair is pure water in a spray bottle. All yesterday when I spoke to people I was patting my head, I listened to them talk and inside I thought, what is on my head? Has anyone else experienced this? Never in all my days has my scalp itched so much or had to be washed because of intense itching. Actually because of the thickness of my hair until you get right up on me no one sees that my hair is parted at all.

Last night I decided that I had enough and if I didn't wash my head then someone would see my inside wrath sooner or o.k., right now. I parted my hair into small sections making about twenty different braids. I used cloth, no pulling colored ponytail holders that can be found at any retail store on the ends. I also used snap clips to hold the front and the back nap areas of the hair. I'm a fan of the Knotty Boy Products so I grabbed my shampoo bar and went to work. Oh the feeling of sweet relief was given almost admittedly to my head. I squeezed the water out of each braid and wrapped a towel around my head for five minutes to gather any extra water. After five minutes I removed the towel, hair ties and upbraided each section and with the clips still in place I used the blow dryer on the lowest setting it gently dry my hair.

I have to say without putting my foot into my mouth by talking myself up, that it looked better after washing and best of all no more itch at all......Crazy.

Any itch stories anyone?

I remember those days :(

I think I was right around my 3rd or 4th day went my scalp started itching so bad that I wished there was a way to temporarily remove it and get some relief. I really thought I wouldn't have the itchies because I don't think my scalp is sensitive and I'd never experienced itching like that when I wore micros or box braids. I still haven't figured out what it is about locks.

I'm glad that you're feeling some relief :)

Why didn't you too tell me? LOL
I thought there must be a spider family on my head or my locks made a deal with the devil by the time I decided to wash. I feel much better now and I'm glad that it was not only me that expierenced this.

I don't know wha causes it. I think maybe from all of the freshly parts.

My consultant asked that I wait as long as I could(and I'm talking weeks) before I washed my locks. I don't know how I did it but I made it to 3 weeks and a couple days. My dry scalp gets so itchy it burns and I couldn't take it anymore. The wash also kinda relaxes your hair from the Sisterlock styling and helps fill in your scalp. You didn't have the scalpy issue though.

You could also try water with aloe vera gel.

I got the itchies as well and was about to go crazy! My consultant recommends the Aveda Scalp Remedy. I get itchy after retightenings too. The Scalp Remedy is a spray bottle with just a little nozzle so that you can spray it directly on the scalp and massage it in. It won't leave any residue on your locks and works great!

Ooh, girl my scalp was itchy the day she finished my hair. She finished my hair on a Tuesday and I held out until the following Monday, with my head on fire. My consultant had already recommended Nizoral for the itchy and flaky scalp, so I know the relief you felt. Plus that first washing took too many hours for me to take up your comments to talk about. Your hair is looking wonderful.

awww yeh braids/extensions itch like that too when they first get done. i don't have sista locs, i have regular ones and i was recommended a solution of noxema and oil..... or locking dry wash shampoo.. a cooling menthol to help with the itching sensation. well looks like washing it helped. (I just hate to see my fresh do get all fuzzy) which is fantastic for you and sista locs that it looks better after being washed! your hair is beautiful.
